Editorial Policies

Editorial Policies for Wearing Jesus

Our Purpose

Teaching the lessons of God’s Word truthfully in an understandably and thus in a liveable way is our mission and passion at Wearing Jesus. We publish articles applying biblical truth to life as a ministry to friends and family in faith worldwide. Our articles are based on the exposition of Scripture and its intended true purpose of writing.

We encourage all of our prospective authors to set aside some time to read and review the Wearing Jesus mission statement in the about section. All articles conform to Wearing Jesus’s policies, mission, and doctrinal statements.

Our Readers

Please consider our audience as you choose a topic and approach: We write primarily for evangelical laypeople.

Most of our exemplary readers are not necessarily Wearing Jesus graduates. But some are actively involved in the church. Wearing Jesus is not a forum for theological debate or exegetical controversy but a ministry through which we teach God’s Word and demonstrate to others what it means first to love God and then love your neighbour like themselves.

Authorship and Contributors

Wearing Jesus is a ministry to all people. Therefore, we prefer articles written by our alumni, faculty, students, staff, board members, donors, and families that embrace our work. However, we publish articles written by many like-minded brothers or sisters in Christ from time to time and also allow ghostwriting on appropriate viewpoints and goals.

Successful Articles

Wearing Jesus publishes the following types of articles (online & print):

Exposition Articles

Our exposition articles are usually authored by Wearing Jesus faculty or similarly qualified individuals. These pieces are heavy on Bible teaching, generally revealing the truth about a scriptural passage or theological doctrine. When writing such an article, please remember to include application points – answering the question, “So what?” Keep in mind your and our audience when communicating theological truths on wearingjesus.com, and use non-technical language.

Practical Christianity Articles

Our practical Christianity articles communicate truths the author has learned through experience. Typically, these articles are story-driven, illustrating a scriptural point. When writing a relevant article for Wearing Jesus, please include Scripture verses to anchor the intended idea. The article should encourage the average Christian to live out their faith daily worldwide. Please include some exposition that ends with the application of truth.

Book Excerpts

Wearing Jesus prefers book excerpts written by our alumni. Publishers are welcome to submit quotes for consideration from books under Christian Books (i.e., Bible Study, Christian Living, Worship and Devotional, Pastoral Leadership, Ministry and Evangelism, etc.). We do not publish excerpts of poetry, fiction, or children’s books at this point.

Author Profile Articles

We appreciate testimonials of all kinds and love hearing from people who inspire and showcase God’s love through using their gifts faithfully to uplift others.

Student profiles are published online. We welcome news and feedback regarding our students. When writing a profile, make the story live through real-life examples and direct quotes from your subject and at least two other friends and/or colleagues who can support your premise.

A well-done profile should include at least three sources. The outline is not that of a biography that provides a chronology of someone’s life. The focus is more on a specific application, time and ministry. Would you please avoid listing dates and places? Instead, find a theme in your or a friend’s life, and work the information around that topic. You are revealing faith in action. For further inquiry, analyse our articles online to see any patterns.

Article Specifications

The length of the article should be up to 2,800 words maximum. Please do not submit articles that exceed this limit and suggest that we edit them down to size. We prefer articles of around 1,600 words.

Queries

The Editor maintains a pool of articles throughout the year. Please feel free to submit your article via email with the phrase “Article for Submission” in the subject line. If your article is chosen for publishing, then you will be notified.

For any hard copy articles, keep in mind that we assemble most issues at least three months before distribution; therefore, after submission, be patient. It can take some time before the article goes public. Because of this delay in publishing, it is virtually impossible to run articles directly related to specific life events (e.g., human traumas, earth tragedies, terrorist attacks). Instead, we want articles that explore timeless truths.

Submissions

Before you submit an article, be sure to study several recent Wearing Jesus articles. Look at our published articles, common writing styles, and how our current writers approach their topics.

You can email article submissions to wearingjesus@gmail.com. Include your mailing address (for hard copies only) and your relationship to Wearing Jesus in your email. An accepted query does not guarantee the purchase or publication of the article. All submissions are processed on speculation, and the Wearing Jesus editorial committee reserves the right to reject any article at any stage.

Due to the volume of submissions we receive, we regret we cannot guarantee a response to all submission requests. However, you should expect a response if your article is to be published.

Requested Articles

Would you please attach a high-definition, current, colour photograph of yourself and a two-sentence author description when submitting an article that we’ve requested? Articles should be typed, single-spaced, with an apparent mention of word count attached. If your article has already appeared elsewhere, please say so. Submissions should be emailed to wearingjesus@gmail.com with an attachment in a popular document format.
